Whether you just had your first baby or have several kids, getting connected with other moms is a great way to stay encouraged, get out of the house, and provide opportunities for your kids to play with other kids their age (and for you to chat with other moms!). I’ve scouted the East Bay in search for support groups, mom groups, or play groups and here are many that I have found.
Alta Bates | has a Breastfeeding Support Group, first session is free and each session is $10 after that.
Birthways | in Berkeley has lots of classes available and a six-week New Mom’s Group for $175.
First 5 Centers | are located throughout the East Bay. They provide support, programs, and classes for expectant parents and families with children birth to five years. Up to 100 different classes are provided each month – all free. Visit their website to see what’s in your area.
John Muir | in Walnut Creek has Mommy & Me support groups for moms to share the joys of motherhood and benefit from ongoing support by staying connected with fellow MuirMommies. Cost is $5 per meeting.
La Leche League | has free breastfeeding support groups in Oakland and Berkeley as well as in Briones which serves most of the East Bay. All women interested in breastfeeding are encouraged to attend group meetings regardless of membership status. Babies are always welcome.
Mt. Diablo Mother’s Club | is a social and support group for mothers and expectant mothers. We exist to form and strengthen friendships for you and your family. Membership is $36 or $56 per year.
Contra Costa Library | has events for babies, preschoolers, and kids of all ages. Check out their calendar for storytimes.
East Bay Moms | is a group that goes on weekly hikes and plans other activities. Membership is $90 a year. Visit their website.
First Time Moms – East Bay, CA | are first time moms who are experiencing all of the same new and exciting challenges. They meet about 2 to 3 times a week to chat, swap stories, get tips, and get out of the house and plan a variety of activities. Visit their MeetUp site.
Locus Bloom | is a non-profit child and family resource center located in Oakland, CA for families with children ages 0-5. Their daily schedule includes free play, art activities, circle time, a light snack, and physical activities. Visit their website or Facebook page
Mocha Moms of W. Contra Costa | is a group of multi-cultural mothers who want to make time for themselves while still supporting their families. Membership is $50 a year. They have a Facebook page as well.
Pleasant Hill / Walnut Creek Mother’s Club | offers monthly family outings, moms night outs, playgroups, sub-clubs, and more for a membership cost of $25 a year. Learn more from their website.
Here’s a preschool site with a very lengthy list of mom groups by city.
